Father's Day dinner at Morton's (hidden somewhere on the fourth level of Oriental hotel).
Consumed a If you're craving for some really solid juicy steak then Morton's the place to go! The ambiance was intimate, dimly lit, with a mixture of expatriates, families and couples. After being seated, our server introduced to us the different cuts of steak plus a few seafood dishes. Needless to say, we were firmly fixed on trying their famous porterhouse steak and fillet mignon. We were then served a gigantic onion loaf while being given some time to run through the menu. I must say that the onion loaf was nothing short of excellent, and I had to strongly resist the temptation to have more and more of it as portions at Morton's were HUGE. Believe me when I say they're huge. The mains in Morton's does not come with any side dishes. These comes as additional orders (which means more moolah)But I must mention the mashed potato, this is the best mashed potato I've had in my entire life - really creamy and bursting with flavour with every bite. But this comes with a hefty price tag of $20. Not cheap for a potato. We had: 1) Porterhouse steaks I had a shock when the food was delivered, I was thinking "this must be a really BIG cow". This portion is definitely good for 2, even big eaters. The parents had that and they said it was damn good, the steak literally does melt in your mouth and its served with this thick buttery sauce that is amazing - although terrible for your arteries. I tried a mouthful of it and I can't remember eating a better steak. Yep it was THAT GOOD. 2) Fillet Mignon This was a really juicy and succulent piece of meat. Nicely charred on the outside and retaining the tenderness of the food. Boy, it was fantastic!! I was this close to having an orgasm in my seat. This was my order and seriously I cannot find any words to describe how awesome it tasted. Delish! 3) Whole Baked Maine Lobster The sister had this and liked it. This was quite creamy and chewy but I gathered is not really worth blowing $180 for something that is not extraordinary. Not that this dish is not good, I guess lobster just doesn't go too well for me. Now what really set Morton's apart from the rest is the service and it was exemplary during my visit. The staff were friendly but not overly so and took care to explain aspects of the dishes. Key details like your name will be remembered despite the restaurant being jammed packed and the servers were really attentive. If service was like this in all restaurants I would most definitely be tipping a lot more. Contrary to popular belief...Morton's isn't really THAT expensive luh. Be prepared to set aside about $150-$200 per person but it's really very very worth it. Superb service, lovely ambiance and great food. And if you plan to celebrate your birthday there, do make reservations in advance and they will print out a specialised menu with your name on it just for you! BUT BUT, between you and me here's a secret: Happy Hour at Mortons from 5 to 7pm. Weekdays only. For $11.95 each (over happy hour, they are originally priced between $21 - $27 each), pick a martini off the menu. The range is limited though; - Mortini - Cosmopolitan - Appletini - Chocolate Mortini (My favourite!!) - Lychee Mortini Very girly drinks! Nicenicenice. The best martinis I've had. Not the watered sissy stuff they serve in hotel bars elsewhere. Try the Chocolate Mortini because it's very addictive and you'll be happyhighhappy in no time. And and instead of drinking on an empty stomach, Morton'sfree flow of steak sandwiches. Who cares if they are scraps from last night's trimmings? (Joking) These delish bits are the best examples of how a simple dish is transformed by good grilled beef with a dash of butter. You will never go back to Subway again. Just don't be so kiasu and take 6 sandwiches at the time. Keep this a secret. But please dress like you have some money. The good people at Mortons will refuse entry to ah bengs/ah lians wearing shorts, slippers, contrast skinnies and skank tops. Food porn: |
